I love Pokémon and I love Matcha green tea so why not enjoy them both at the same time? I have fun in this delicious, vegan recipe where I mix my childhood dreams of becoming a Pokémon master, with my current life as a chef. The results is a creamy, rich matcha green tea beverage with some boba. Gotta drink 'em all.
Note: If you want to make the meal replacement version of this drink you will need a blender.
Ingredients:
Regular Verion
2 cups of non-dairy milk
1/4 cup of tapioca pearls (if you like more, add more)
1 to 2 teaspoons of matcha green tea powder
1/4 cup of hot water (165 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal)
4 tablespoons of (2 for the tapioca pearls and 2 for the drink; use more or less depending on your taste) Agave or other vegan sweetener
Meal Replacement Version
1 can of full fat coconut milk
1/4 cup of tapioca pearls (if you like more, add more)
1 to 2 teaspoons of matcha green tea powder
1/4 cup of hot water (165 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal)
4 tablespoons of (2 for the tapioca pearls and 2 for the drink; use more or less depending on your taste) Agave or other vegan sweetener
1 small avocado (helps make the texture smooth)
3 tablespoon of hemp protein powder (I used Nutiva but I would only use this if you've had hemp protein in the past and enjoyed it)
Directions:
Step 1: Follow the manufacturers instructions to prepare the tapioca pearls.
Step 2: Once the tapioca pearls are finished add them to a bowl and add 2 tablespoons of agave or another vegan sweetener of your choice (use more or less depending on your taste).
Step 3: Mix the tapioca pearls and the sweetener together and set aside.
Step 4: In a small bowl sift 1 to 2 teaspoons of matcha powder.
Step 5:. Add the hot water (165 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal).
Step 6: Whisk together using a bamboo whisk (you can buy one separately or buy a matcha green tea set; if not you can use what you have).
Step 7: Whisk in an "M" shape until matcha becomes frothy (continue on to step 8 for the meal replacement version).
Step 7A: (For the Regular version stop after this step) Get a large glass, add boba, ice, and 1.5 to 2 cups of non dairy milk, and the whisked matcha green tea on top (in the order). Add sweetener to your taste. Enjoy.
Step 8: Fill a blender with a handful of ice, 1 can of full fat coconut milk (or 2 cups of non dairy milk), your fresh whipped matcha, agave (or other vegan sweetener), avocado (optional), and hemp protein (optional). Blend your ingredients together.
Step 9: In a large glass add some of your tapioca pearls.
Step 10: Add your blended matcha drink into the glass and enjoy.
